Privacy policy
Last updated 2 November 2026
This policy explains what data Clipsmith touches, where that data lives, and what you can do about it. It covers both the Clipsmith desktop application and this website.
The short version. Clipsmith runs entirely on your own computer. There is no Clipsmith account, no Clipsmith server, and no Clipsmith database. Your videos, your transcripts and your access tokens never leave your machine. The only data that goes anywhere is the clip you explicitly choose to publish, which goes directly from your computer to YouTube or TikTok.
1. Who is responsible
Clipsmith is an independent project maintained by a single developer, who is the data controller for the limited processing described here. Because the app keeps everything on your own computer, that controller never receives your data; see section 2.
Contact: support@clipsmith.net
2. What the desktop application processes
Your media and transcripts
When you give Clipsmith a video, it is read from your disk (or downloaded to your disk from a URL you provide), transcribed by a speech-recognition model running locally on your own processor or graphics card, and rendered into clips written back to your disk. No part of this is sent to us or to any third party. The transcript, the intermediate files and the finished clips are ordinary files in folders you control, and you delete them by deleting the files.
Caption drafting
Titles and descriptions are drafted by a language model that also runs on your own machine. The text of your clip is not sent to a hosted AI service.
Connected YouTube and TikTok accounts
Connecting an account is optional. Clipsmith is fully usable without it; you simply will not be able to publish from inside the app. If you do connect an account, Clipsmith receives and stores the following on your computer only:
- Access and refresh tokens for that account, encrypted using your operating system’s own key store (Windows DPAPI, macOS Keychain, or the Linux secret service), held in the Clipsmith application data folder on your machine.
- Account identity: the channel or account ID, display name, username or handle, and the URL of the profile picture — so the app can show you which account you are about to post to.
- Public account statistics: for YouTube, subscriber count, total view count and video count; for TikTok, follower count, like count and video count. These are fetched when you open the accounts screen and shown to you. They are not aggregated, analysed or transmitted.
- A local publish history: which clip was sent to which account, when, and whether it succeeded.
Clipsmith does not request, receive or store your password, your email address, your private videos, your comments, your messages, your watch history, your viewers’ data, or any content belonging to anyone other than you.
What is sent out, and only when you ask
When you press publish, the rendered clip file and the title, description and privacy setting you chose are uploaded directly from your computer to YouTube or TikTok using their official APIs. That is the only outbound transmission of your content, it happens per clip, and it happens because you initiated it.
3. Google and YouTube data
Clipsmith uses YouTube API Services. By connecting a YouTube channel you are also agreeing to the YouTube Terms of Service, and Google’s handling of your data is described in the Google Privacy Policy.
Clipsmith requests exactly two Google OAuth scopes:
https://www.googleapis.com/auth/youtube.upload— to upload a clip to the channel you selected and set its title, description and privacy status.https://www.googleapis.com/auth/youtube.readonly— to list the channels your account owns so you can choose one, to display that channel’s name, avatar and public counts in the app, and to confirm that an upload completed.
Clipsmith’s use and transfer of information received from Google APIs to any other app adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Specifically: data obtained through these scopes is used only to provide the publishing features you see in the app, is never sold, is never used for advertising or profiling, is never used to train any model, and is never transferred to anyone except Google itself when performing the upload you requested. No human other than you ever reads it, because it never leaves your computer.
You can revoke Clipsmith’s access to your Google account at any time, independently of the app, at Google’s security settings page or at myaccount.google.com/permissions. You can also disconnect the account inside Clipsmith, which revokes the token with Google and deletes the stored copy from your disk.
Any cached YouTube API data — channel names, avatars and counts — is refreshed or deleted within 30 days, as the YouTube API Services Terms require.
4. TikTok data
Clipsmith uses TikTok’s Login Kit and Content Posting API. TikTok’s own handling of your data is described in the TikTok Privacy Policy.
Clipsmith requests these TikTok scopes:
user.info.basic— your open ID, display name and avatar, to identify the connected account.user.info.profile— your username, shown beside the account in the app.user.info.stats— your follower, like and video counts, shown on that account’s card.video.upload— to place a clip in your TikTok inbox as a draft for you to review and post.video.publish— to post a clip directly when you choose direct posting rather than a draft.
This data is stored on your computer only, used only to show you your own accounts and to publish the clips you select, and never sold, shared, used for advertising, or used to train a model.
You can revoke access in the TikTok app under Settings and privacy → Security and permissions → Apps and services, or by disconnecting the account inside Clipsmith.
5. This website
clipsmith.net is a set of static pages. It sets no cookies, runs no analytics, embeds no tracking pixels, and has no login or contact form. The web server keeps standard access logs containing your IP address, the page requested, a timestamp and your browser’s user-agent string, for security and troubleshooting; these are rotated and deleted within 30 days.
These pages load the Inter typeface from Google Fonts, which means your IP address is visible to Google when the font is fetched. If you would rather it were not, a content blocker or a privacy-oriented browser will prevent that request and the pages will fall back to a system typeface.
6. Deleting your data
Because everything is local, you are in direct control:
- Disconnect an account in Clipsmith: the token is revoked with the platform and the stored copy is erased from your disk.
- Uninstall Clipsmith and delete its application data folder: every token, account record, statistic and publish history entry is gone.
- Delete your media: transcripts, intermediate files and clips are normal files in your own folders.
- Clips already published live on YouTube or TikTok and must be deleted there, in those apps, like any other post.
We hold no copy of any of it, so there is nothing for us to delete on your behalf. If you want written confirmation of that, email support@clipsmith.net and you will get it.
7. Legal basis and your rights
Where the GDPR applies, processing of your account data rests on your consent, given when you connect an account and withdrawable at any time by disconnecting it. The website’s access logs rest on legitimate interest in keeping the server secure.
You have the right to access, correct, erase, restrict and object to processing of your personal data, and to lodge a complaint with the data protection supervisory authority in your country. Since no personal data reaches us, requests for access or erasure are satisfied by the steps in section 6, and we will confirm that in writing on request.
8. Children
Clipsmith is not directed at children and is not intended for anyone under 16, nor under the minimum age required by YouTube and TikTok in your country, whichever is higher.
9. Changes
If this policy changes, the date at the top of this page changes with it, and a change that materially affects what the app does with your data will be announced in the application’s release notes.
